Businessman Stakes Claim Over UP Congress Headquarters
A businessman from Lucknow has submitted documents to Municipal authorities claiming that UP Congress headquarters' building belongs to his grandfather late Ramswaroop Agarwal who bought it in an auction.

Lucknow: There seems to be new trouble for the Congress in Uttar Pradesh. A Lucknow-based businessman has claimed that the UP Congress headquarters, also known as Nehru Bhawan, belongs to his family and should be transferred back.

Manish Agarwal, a businessman from Lucknow’s Gomti Nagar area, has submitted documents to Lucknow Municipal authorities claiming that the building belongs to his grandfather late Ramswaroop Agarwal who bought it in an auction. He alleged that the building was illegally transferred to the Congress.

“My grandfather bought the building in an auction by the Rehabilitation Ministry on April 2, 1961. He paid Rs 1.75 lakh. During Chandrabhanu Gupta’s tenure as CM a room was let out to the Congress. The property was in the name of my family till 1976. Records after that show the name of Mohsina Kidwai who was caretaker of Congress (I) and the state unit president,” said Agarwal.

He said he will approach court once mutation is done and name of his family members are added to the records.

Meanwhile, the Lucknow Municipal Authority had issued a notice to the UP Congress President and sought a reply. “We have received a mutation request and probe is on. Both the sides will be heard and documents will be verified before taking any decision,” said Nagar Ayukt, Udayraj Singh.

Contradicting the claims made by Agarwal, Congress spokesperson Satyadev Tripathi said, “We are operating from this office for last 38 years, this claim seems absurd. The building was bought in an auction between 1977 and 1979 when Mohsina Kidwai was Congress state president. The claims by the Agarwal family are wrong.”
