KOCHI: The world's largest mass wedding ceremony being organised for BPL families in the state will be held in Kochi. Justice V R Krishna Iyer announced the launch of the campaign for the largest mass wedding ceremony at the Mother Teresa Award function held here on Monday. The mass wedding ceremony, 'Parinayam 1111', will have 1111 couples from BPL families across the state getting married at the same venue. The ceremony will be conducted at Marine Drive on November 11. It's going to be the largest mass wedding ceremony in the world.The ceremony will see people from various religious background tying the knot under the same roof. The rituals will be conducted according to the religious backgrounds of the couples. The couples can also choose to perform the wedding in a non-religious manner. Each couple will be gifted a 'thali' and a gold ring. "We will also have a mass feast with 40,000 people and will take the responsibility of escorting the couples from their villages and back. Some couples have already started approaching us. The budget for the event is estimated to be around `35 crore," said 'Parinayam 1111' vice-president, promotions, Reshma Nair. The application forms for the mass wedding will be distributed to the panchayat block offices from Monday. Once the application forms are received the sub-committees under 'Parinayam 1111' will scrutinise them on the basis of various criteria like previous marriage records and criminal background, and then select eligible couples. At least one couple will be selected from each village panchayat. The event is being jointly organised by the Socialist Samskara Kendra and the charitable trust, Folklore Arts and Cultural Enlightenment (Face).
