CBI signs MoU with Gujarat Forensic Science University

New Delhi: The CBI on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) here with Gujarat Forensic Science University (GFSU) to enhance its investigating capacity by using forensic science.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) signed the MoU to establish collaboration for the purpose of identifying new areas for application of forensic science -- including behavioural science, forensic nanotechnology, computer forensics and forensic pharmacy -- in the fields of criminal investigation.

The MoU was signed by CBI Director Ranjit Sinha and Director General of GFSU JM Vyas. GFSU, established in 2009, claims to be the only university in India dedicated to forensic and investigative science.

The MoU aims to enable a capacity building platform for investigating officers of CBI, scientists from Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) and other officers attending the CBI Academy.

It will also help CBI officers to learn the art of interview and interrogation through modern tools available for analysis of human behaviour.

"All the three stakeholders -- CBI, CFSL (New Delhi) and the Gujarat Forensic Science University -- would benefit to the greatest extent by holding joint training programmes in the field of application of forensic science in criminal investigation," said Sinha.

Vyas said that this is the first such MoU of the GFSU with any probe agency. "The university will help to upgrade the existing forensic laboratory of the CBI."
