MALAPPURAM: The Central health team that reached the state to evaluate the recent outbreak of leptospirosis visited hospitals and fever-stricken areas in Malappuram district on Friday. The team comprises UVS Rana, joint director, division of Zoonosis, National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) and Dr. Hamid Karad, consultant epidemologist of the NCDC.The team visited community health centre, Mankada, primary health centre in Puzhakkattiri, Taluk hospitals in Perinthalmanna and Nilambur and interacted with elected representatives of the Perinthalmanna and Edavanna. In Edavanna, the officials visited the houses of dairy farmers and had a look at the waste disposal system followed there. They also visited the house of Chakki, who died of Leptospirosis, of Ramapuram colony in Puzhakkattiri panchayat.Later, on the day, officials interacted with senior officials of the agriculture and animal husbandry departments.Senior health officials of the district briefed about the measures taken by the district authorities to combat the spread of the disease. The team will visit hospitals in Kozhikode on Saturday.
