The Centre was worried over the law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh which had turned from "bad to worse" and awaiting the Governor's report on the issue, Union Minister Kalraj Mishra said on Tuesday.
"Uttar Pradesh Government is elected in accordance with the Constitutional norms and so is the government at the Centre. I can't say much on the issue but we are awaiting the (Governor's) report. Based on that report, we will take appropriate action in the matter," he told reporters on the margins of an event organised by Federation of Karnataka Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI) in Banglore.
Mishra's statement comes in the wake of the growing demand from BJP and BSP that the Centre intervene in Uttar Pradesh following brutal gang rape, murders and political killings in recent days.
The Centre and people were worried about the law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh, and it had taken note of it and was giving all support to the Akhilesh Yadav government, Mishra, a senior leader from Uttar Pradesh, said.
"We are all worried. The central government has taken note and is advising Uttar Pradesh government. We are also giving help," he said.
The law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh "is turning from bad to worse," Mishra, Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, said.
