Chandigarh: The police custody of the five policemen accused of gangraping a minor girl ends on Wednesday.
Last week, in a shocking incident, the upholders of the law were accused of allegedly gangraping a minor in Chandigarh. A 17-year-old girl from Khudda Lahora was allegedly raped for over two and a half months by Chandigarh police constables after she called the police to intervene in a fight between her brother and father.
One of the constables who responded is alleged to have raped her after he lured her into accompanying him in the days following the complaint.
It has also been alleged that his colleagues took turns raping her for several weeks. The incident came to light when the 17-year-old told her brother who in turn contacted the area's councillor and lodged a complaint.
With the news of the incident spreading in the area, the Chandigarh Police image has taken a hit and their slogan of "We care for You" has come under a cloud.
