THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In an apparent bid to aggravate the difference of opinion among the CPI cadre over CPI state secretary C K Chandrappan’s controversial statement, Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has alleged that Chandrappan is a remnant of the Dange School which always wanted to stay with the Congress as in the pre-1980 era.Briefing media on the activity report presented in the CPM state conference here on Tuesday, Kodiyeri said that the CPM cannot just ignore Chandrappan’s statement. He had been enthusiastic in saying that he was elected to the Lok Sabha twice defeating CPM candidates with the help of the Congress.“The issue under question is that who will be the beneficiary of Chandrappan’s statement,” Kodiyeri said. Chandrappan stood with S A Dange in his attempt to split the party in 1964. But following the Bhatinda Congress, the CPI left the Congress camp and joined the left forces even sacrificing the chief ministership of P K Vasudevan Nair. CPI should learn its lessons from the past, he said.Asked whether there was any difference of opinion in the CPI over the issue, Kodiyeri said that it was for that party to make it clear. When pointed out that CPI general secretary A B Bardhan had said that Chandrappan’s stand was the party’s stand he evaded a direct answer and said that the CPM central leadership should be asked for a comment on this.
