Lucknow: Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad on Wednesday met family members of victims who were allegedly crushed to death by upper caste locals in Bulandshahr following a failed attempt of molestation and abduction. A large number of policemen have been deployed in the area.

Two women were crushed to death on Monday night by a car after they objected to a molestation bid on their family member. Two more persons were seriously injured in the incident. According to available information, some men had broken into the woman's house and tried to molest and later, abduct her.

Police said a case was registered against four persons, including the main accused Nakul Singh who has been arrested. However, demanding immediate arrest of all the accused, the victims' family and locals had blocked National Highway-91 and staged a protest with the bodies of the victims.

The CCTV footage of the incident showed the car hitting the two women and speeding away. In another video, the women were seen describing their ordeal about how the man had threatened her minutes before mowing them down with his car.

After meeting the aggrieved family members, Azad said, “I don’t care if other politicians come here or not. My entire community and I stand in solidarity with the family.” He also sought strict punishment of the culprits.

Bulandshahr Senior Superintendent of Police N Kolanchi said, “We've registered a case of molestation and attempt to murder. The woman in her statement has said that she was asked to sit in the car by the accused and when she refused to do so, they ran over her family members. One person has been arrested. The CCTV footage doesn't show molestation attempt. A probe is underway.”

The Uttar Pradesh SC/ST Commission has taken suo motu cognisance of the incident and sought a report from Kolanchi. Panel chairman Brij Lal has written to the SSP seeking immediate investigation and prompt action in the case.
