THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy has asked the CPM leadership on why no convincing answers are coming so far from their side on the barbaric Kannapuram Shukoor murder case or the points raised by former MLA R Sevalraj. Taking strong exception to the CPM charge that his office had written the script in fixing the murderers behind the Kannapuram incident, Chandy told media persons that the entire media of Kannur had reported the brutal murder last month and it had come up for discussions in the Assembly also. “It is only now that the probe has been completed. Is it not the onus of the party to explain whether the two arrested youths had any connection with the outfit?” he asked. “Five youths were cornered in a field by CPM men and their photographs were sent via mobile phones, before taking final orders from somewhere awarding the punishment to the two. On was killed and the other was critically injured on the basis of the sentence awarded by the `party court,’ in full public glare. The only thing which is new in connection with the incident is that the brother of the murdered person had identified an accused,” Chandy maintained. “None will be allowed to take law into their hands,” he warned. Chandy was also critical on the CPM leadership in the R Selvaraj resignation issue. “Selvaraj had raised many party issues. The CPM had not answered to the posers of the resigned MLA. The party is not even capable of holding a public meet in Neyyatinkara and explain the developments. But Selavraj has the support of the people, he said. When pointed out that both Selvaraj and Government chief whip P C George has finally admitted to have been in touch before the resignation, Chandy evaded the poser and said that he had been telling the Opposition to come up with evidence on the charges levelled against the Chief Minister. “Selvaraj is free. The CPM is keen only to jump over me,” he ridiculed. On whether the government will initiate action without delay on the Assembly panel report indicting Achuthanandan and his son V A Arunkumar, the Chief Minister said that political or personal vendetta would never be followed in the matter. “We were all held up in Piravom since it is a priority. The law will take its own course,” he said.
