HYDERABAD: The new arrival at the Hyderabad zoo, Dark, has brought light to the park! Dark, the cheetah from the Czech Republic, attracted as many as 41,009 visitors on Sunday, which is way above the normal figures and in fact, a record for any zoo in the State. It seems young and old in the city are equally curious to see the fastest animal on the planet. The cheetah was formally put in an enclosure that the public can see on Saturday. Though three cheetahs were flown in from the Czech Republic, only one has been put on display. The other two are still kept in separate enclosures, far from the prying eyes of the curious visitors, for fear that the cats if put in one place will fight among themselves and hurt one another.Last Sunday, 30,611 people visited the zoo. “This Sunday, the Nehru zoo park has set a new benchmark in terms of revenue and number of visitors. The zoo’s revenue of the day is `10.5 lakh,” explained P Mallikarjuna Rao, Director of AP zoological parks. He attributed the record numbers to the eight-year-old male cheetah Dark and said the other two cats will also be put on display soon.According to the zoo records, the total number of visitors on Sunday stood at 41,009. Of them, 29,619 were adults and 11,390 children. The total amount collected in the form of entry fee from these visitors was `10.5 lakh compared to `7.44 lakh earned last Sunday.
