Greater Chennai Police Commissioner Sandeep Rai Rathore has been transferred to the position of Director at the Tamil Nadu Police Training College, just three days after the brutal murder of the state Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief K. Armstrong by armed assailants last week.

Rathore’s role has been assumed by senior IPS officer A. Arun, who previously served as the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Law and Order, according to an order issued by Principal Secretary P. Amudha of the Home (SC) Department.

Simultaneously, senior IPS officer S. Davidson Devasirvatham has been appointed as the new ADGP, Law and Order.

“ADGP/Commissioner of Police, Greater Chennai Police vice Dr Sandeep Rai Rathore, IPS by downgrading the post of DGP/CoP..,” the order stated.

Tamil Nadu BSP leader Armstrong was hacked to death by six bike-borne men near his house in Perambur, Chennai, on July 5. He was immediately rushed to a private hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
