Chennai: Nine head of departments have been expelled by the management of Chennai's Bala Vidya Mandir private school over forcing an alleged discriminatory fee structure. The school management has also sacked the principal and the CEO of the school.
Opposing the discriminatory fee structure, parents and teachers are staging protests outside the private school. Angry parents say the sacking is arbitrary and unethical. While the school reopened on Thursday after the summer vacations, the parents are yet undecided whether to send their children to the school or not.
Bala Vidya Mandir school had given parents options for school fees wherein a student will get better education and facilities if parents pay around Rs 60,000 per annum. The other option given to the parents was to pay a fee of Rs 35,800 after which their children will be permitted to attend only 4.5 hours of classes and will be denied more than 50 extra curricular activities and facilities such as the school canteen, multimedia lab, among others.
After reports came out in the media, the school had decided to scrap the dual fee structure.
Nearly 400 parents are protesting against the school's fee structure. The fee determination committee has ordered a probe into the matter.
A parent said, "The school has been charging huge amounts of illegal fees for a long time. High fees was sparking point for parents to approach the committee."
