NABARANGPUR: Hardcore Maoist and commander of Udanti-Raighar-Sinapalli border area committee, operating in Orissa-Chhattisgarh border, Laxmidhar Nayak alias Gundadhul surrendered before Nabarangpur SP Niti Sekhar on Saturday.Nayak of Chhattisgarh was a close associate of divisional secretary Kartik, Lalitha and Jani Salm - both active members of Manpur Divisional Committee of Chhattisgarh under which the committee operates. All the Maoist operations in Nabarangpur and Nuapada districts are executed by the committee. Nayak joined the outfit in 2006 after being motivated by a cadre Rainu Mandavi who also assured him of monetary benefits. He was trained in guerilla warfare at a camp in Sunabeda in Nuapada district and later made the commandant of the area committee with a team of 12 cadres, including four women. His area of operations mainly comprised Nabarangpur and Nuapada districts. He further said the Manpur divisional committee is being controlled by Telugu-speaking senior cadres from Andhra Pradesh. “These senior cadres area discriminating against the lower rung cadres though the Maoist ideology speaks of equality. When my mother died I was not even allowed to attend the funeral,” he said.Nayak said he had decided to quit the outfit after he realised that ‘socialism cannot be achieved by means of violence’. Nayak was involved in four murders in Timanpur village under Raighar block in 2010 and murder of a forest guard at Sunabeda under Nuapada district.
