Child rights body hauls UP cops for Arushi slander
Police have been asked to prove basis of the "objectionable" relation statement.

New Delhi: The country’s official agency on child rights on Tuesday asked the UP police to explain within 15 days the basis of its claim that murdered Noida girl Arushi had an "objectionable" relation with domestic help Hemraj.

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights issued a notice to the police asking them to explain "proximity angle" in their investigation.

Arushi, 14, and Hemraj, 45, was found murdered in her home in Noida two weeks ago. Arushi’s father, dentist Rajesh Talwar, was arrested on Friday and charged with the murders.

Women and child rights groups allege police officials have been insensitive while making statements on Arushi’s murder and have slandered her.

Gurudarshan Singh, Inspector General of Police for Meerut zone, has alleged that Talwar found Arushi and Hemraj in an “objectionable position” and killed them.

Police allege that Arushi knew about Talwar’s extra-marital affair and was “close” to Hemraj.

"We want to know how the revelations of her proximity with the domestic have helped the case. We also want to know the evidence that corroborate this claim of the police. The police has a time of 15 days from today to reply back to the commission," said Sandhya Bajaj, member of the commission.

The commission disapproved of the way media had reported about the murders. "We are of the view that media, specially the electronic media, should try and restrict themselves from flashing details pertaining to the character of Aarushi. The news is affecting other girls of her age and that is worrisome," said commission chairperson Shanta Sinha.
