THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: If things go as planned, a library, history museum and conference hall will come up in the city as a tribute to the former ruler of Travancore, Sree Chithira Thirunal. This is one of the projects mooted by the Sree Chithira Thirunal Centenary Celebration Committee which is planning to celebrate the birth centenary of Sree Chithira Thirunal in a befitting manner this year. The celebrations will be inaugurated this month, the committee said in a statement. It has decided to ask the government to name the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport, the Vellayambalam-Kowdiar avenue and the Thekkadi wildlife sanctuary after Chithira Thirunal.  The committee  plans to build the library, history museum and conference hall either on the Kowdiar Palace compound or near PMG for furthering the memory and contributions of Chithira Thirunal, the statement said. The committee has also decided to request the Centre to issue a commemorative stamp and a coin on Chithira Thirunal, committee office-bearers former ambassador T P Sreenivasan, former Kowdiar Palace secretary T Raveendran Thampi, V K Harikumar and Poovachal Sadasivan said. As part of the centenary celebrations, the committee plans to hold celebrations in New Delhi towards the end of this year. A committee with 101 members has been constituted for organising the celebrations. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy is the patron and T P Sreenivasan the president. A general body meeting of the committee also decided to ask ‘Metro Man’ E Sreedharan to deliver this year’s Sree Chithira Thirunal Memorial Lecture. An elocution competition on  the contributions of Chithira Thirunal and renovation of the ‘Irumbu Park’ at Fort are also planned.
