BANGALORE: Heavy rain lashed the city on Monday night for over four hours throws life out of gear and damages properties.The Metrological Centre, Bangalore, recorded a rainfall of 75.2 mm till Tuesday morning. Sources said that it was the highest rainfall this year in Bangalore. “Weather will be cloudy and rain is expected to continue till Wednesday afternoon,” an official said.Gali Anjenaya temple on Mysore Road was flooded with sewage  flowing into the sanctum. “Hanuman idol was immersed in the water. Around 12 fire personnel came at three in the midnight and cleared water till 10 am on Tuesday. The staff from the temple also joined them at 6 am in clearing water,” one of the staff from temple told The New Indian Express.Road BlocksResidents of Bapujinagar staged a protest and blocked Mysore Road for one hour on Tuesday morning. “We are fed up of BBMP’s cold attitude. Every year,  we face the same problems during monsoons. Yet, after so many complaints and requests, authorities don’t take action. Deficient infrastructure facilities damage our properties. Will officials compensate our property loss or should we wait till life loss?” asked Venkatesha, a resident of Bapujinagar. He said that they are requesting BBMP officials to clear the silt from Vrushabavathi canal, which is causing the  overflow of rainwater.Later, BBMP Commissioner Siddaiah, who visited the spot had to face public ire. He assured that they will clear the silt from the Vrushabavathi canal as soon as possible. “We understand the trauma people go through in monsoon. We will not wait till BBMP budget. It will be done soon,” he assured.Walls CollapseWalls collapsed at various places simultaneously. Rafeeq Ahmed, a resident  of  Ananthanagar, had to pay the price. Rafeeq, who runs a petty shop, said that he and his family members had to spend sleepless night on Monday. “We did not have space to prepare breakfast due to wall collapse,” he said. Shahajan, a resident of Arfathnagar  too faced wall collapsed. “Though  heavy rain hit the city, we did not have water to drink inside,” Shahajahan said. Walls collapsed at Padarayanapura, Nandini layout, M S Nagar and Hosaguddahalli.Vehicles Damaged At Telecom Layout in Vijaynagar, many vehicles  parked on roadside were damaged. Pawan Jain, a businessman, said that at least 20 two-wheelers and a few cars on the main road floated due to overflow of water. On Girinagar Main Road, a mini lorry belonging to BBMP was stuck to the road.  “A JCB van was called to clear the mud and move the vehicle from there. It took a lot of time which lead to  creating traffic jam,” a  shopkeeper said. Cellar of Balaji Complex, situated  on Mysore road too witnessed water logging, resulting in damaging 12 two-wheelers and 9 cars.Trees Uprooted Many parts of the city witnessed uprooting of trees. When The New Indian Express contacted the BBMP control room, one of the staffs said that trees were uprooted at Thanisandra, Basavanagudi, Chamarajpet and Kasturinagar. Mayor Visits Rain-hit AreasMayor Sharadamma visited many rain affected areas on Tuesday. A press release from the BBMP said that she visited ward 160 (Rajarajeshwari Nagar) and ward 198 (Hemmigepura). She visited Janapriya Apartments in Rajarajeshwari Nagar and interacted with the residents of the locality. The Mayor also assured them that BBMP would construct a wall across the drain to prevent the overflow of sewage.  She visited Ideal Homes Layout and Jayashree Layout, where trees were uprooted. At Kengeri fort of Hemmigepura, one of the resident’s animals died. Reportedly, five sheep and a cow died in the incident.
