Ranchi: In a shocking incident, a class VII student was found dead under mysterious circumstance at posh boarding School - Sapphire International - in Ranchi on Saturday early morning.

The CBSE affiliated residential-cum-day school is located 20 kms from Ranchi and has around 400 students, mostly from well-off families.

Preliminary inquiry revealed that the 13-year-old student identified as Vinay was allegedly killed after 'sexually abused' on Friday night. The local police detained a school teacher in this connection and took him to the police station for interrogation.

"The police are investigating into every possible angle including a teacher's involvement in sexual harassment and murder. We have collected the evidences (that) prima facie suggest that boy might have been subjected to sexual abuse," said Hatia additional superintendent of police Prashant Anand.

One of the private security guard of the school saw Vinay in semi-conscious condition with multiple injuries lying outside teachers' quarters. He immediately raised alarm. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital where he died later.

The CCTV footage reportedly showed Vinay leaving the boys' hostel around 1 am and hours later he was found in semi-conscious condition. Police recovered the undergarments of the student from the room of the suspected teacher.

School Chairman Rohit Sahu while terming the incident unfortunate, said, "The matter is under investigation and we are not aware about the nature of materials seized by the police. It is up to the police to find the real motive behind the murder."

On the context of whether the student was physically fir or not, he said, "The boy was fit and his family members never complained to us over any issue. His two brothers are also studying in our school."

However, Manbahal Mahto, father of the child, alleged that the school authorities are trying to suppress the matter and claimed that his son was killed for resisting sexual advances by a teacher. "School authorities told me that my son was having fever and fell from the school building. I refuse to buy this theory. My son was killed and sexually abused by a school teacher," he added.

Police has said that prima facie evidence suggest that the boy was sexually assaulted.

"We are monitoring the CCTV footage from the school and further investigation is going on," said city SP Kishore Kaushal.
