New Delhi: Belgium's Kim Clijsters continued her winning start to 2007 by dispatching Japan's Akiko Morigami 6-3, 6-0 in the Australian Open on Thursday, staying on course for a quarter-final clash with former champion Martina Hingis.

2005 US Open champion Clijsters is quitting at the season's end to start a family.

Clijsters, 23, won tournaments in Hong Kong and Sydney before beginning in Melbourne with a 6-0, 6-0 victory.

With play delayed on all but the two covered show courts after rain marred the early part of the day, three-time champion Martina Hingis beat Alla Kudryavtseva 6-2, 6-2 to advance at the season's opening Grand Slam tournament.

The 26-year-old Hingis, who won the Australian Open from 1997 to 1999, overcame 134th-ranked Kudryavtseva of Russia in their first career meeting lasting 68 minutes.

Hingis reached the quarterfinals last year in her first Grand Slam after a three-year absence.
