PALAKKAD: There was no place for politics or other considerations and it is the unity between the people and the parties which matters when it comes to developmental issues, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said inaugurating the Muriyankanni bridge built across the Thoothapuzha connecting the panchayats of Thachanattukara and Vellinezhi here on Saturday.The Chief Minister said that the Muriyankanni bridge is an example of this co-operation.The government has set aside Rs 1,200 crore for the Public Works Department apart from the provisions made in the budget. The Chief Minister also announced that a sum of Rs 10 lakh will be sanctioned for those who have surrendered land for the bridge.The contractor of the bridge T A Abdu Rahman, who completed the work before the scheduled time period, was given an incentive at the function. The Chief Minister also handed over a statue of ‘a speeding horse’ to him. Shoranur MLA K S Salekha announced that her one month allowance will be given to Abdu Rahman.PWD Minister V K Ebrahim Kunju, who presided over the meet, said that the government has always focused on improving the infrastructure and executing developmental projects. The bridge built at a cost of Rs 5.8 crore was executed by the Palakkad division of the Public Works Department.M Hamza MLA delivered the main speech.
