KOCHI: Lauding the activities of the Kerala State Legal Services Authority (KELSA) as one that benefits the common man, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said on Saturday that his Government would extend all support to the KELSA. Inaugurating the one-day sensitisation programme for local body members, he said the activities of KELSA were very helpful to the people and it was a people’s movement. ‘’We do not lack laws, but most of the time people are unaware of their rights,’’ he said. Stating that the judges were doing a commendable job, he said that KELSA was doing a far remarkable job by way of going directly to the people. Acting Chief Justice of Kerala High Court C N Ramachandran Nair said the seminar was organised for the local body members as they were every close to the people. Stating that they were ready to start a Legal Aid Clinic, which was now functioning in about 150 regions, which could be extended to other parts if the local authorities want it.   Legal services authorities were constituited for providing free and competent legal service to the weaker sections of the society to ensure that opportunities for securing justice were not denied to any citizen, he said. Moreover, petty disputes could be solved through KELSA, which would help people from spending huge amounts as fees and also the delay in the court proceedings, Justice Nair said. Advocate General K P Dhandapani, High Court Advocates Association president Thomas Abraham and Bar Association president George Merlo Pallath were present at the function.
