BHUBANESWAR: The Orissa Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) has taken exception to the flagging off of Janani Express for Kendrapara during the launching of the Janani Sishu Suraksha Karyakram (JSSK), alleging that it flouted the model Code of Conduct (CoC). In a letter to the State Election Commission (SEC), the OPCC alleged that such activity of the State Government is highly deplorable in view of the scheduled poll to the Kendrapara municipality on November 15. OPCC general secretary Arjya Prasad Gyanendra has demanded strong action against the State Government and the Minister who had flouted the model CoC. The open flouting of the model code has made it clear how the election to the municipality will be conducted. Stating that JSSK is a Central government initiative which was launched by the chairperson of national advisory council (NAC) Sonia Gandhi on June 1, Gyanendra criticised the State Government for spending lakhs of rupees on advertisement of the scheme on November 1 with photographs of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Health and Family Welfare Minister Prasanna Acharya. Gyanendra alleged that Naveen is deliberately trying to take credit for a scheme launched by the Centre in view of the panchayat elections in February next year.
