THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Once again owing to the tactics of the Tamil Nadu-based bullet tanker lobby, the supply of Liquefied Petroleum Gas to Kerala has dwindled, which can cause cooking gas shortage in the coming days. The LPG bottling plant of Indian Oil Corporation in Kochi has stopped production in one of its units for the last four days. There is a shortage of around 7,500 cylinders a day following the stoppage of operation in one of its units. IOC sources said that the bullet tankers from Mangalore were not arriving in Kerala for the last four days. However, 50 per cent of the supply is from Kochi Refineries and the production is continuing with the limited supply. ‘’The plant was closed at 4 pm on Friday and on Saturday, it functioned only till 2 pm. However, the operations at the Kozhikode and Parippally plants were not much affected,’’ sources said. It is pointed out that the LPG shortage of IOC will worsen in the coming days and it has already been felt in the market. IOC officials said that the movement of trucks from Mangalore has resumed and it is expected to reach the plants within two days. IOC sources said that the LPG shortage in Kerala could only be solved with the completion of the interim LPG unloading facility at Kochi till the multi-user liquid terminal of the Cochin Port Trust comes up. CPT sources said that the proposal is yet to get the clearance from the Centre and the Cabinet committee is expected to discuss the issue this month.
