THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Cooperative Department has collected Rs 1,000 crore as arrears under the Aswas scheme as part of the 100-days action programme of the State Government. Cooperation Minister C N Balakrishnan told reporters here on Tuesday that relief worth Rs 40 crore was distributed to the borrowers. He said during the first 100 days the department could initiate several steps. Consumerfed’s 12 Triveni super stores, 3 mobile Triveni stores, 2 floating stores, 21 Neethi Medical Stores, 4,632 Onam-Ramzan special fairs are some of the projects started during this period. He said Sahithya Pravarthaka Sahakarana Sangham has published 50 books. Under the aegis of CAPE, steps have been taken to construct a cardiac centre and blood bank at Punnapra. He said that Rs 9.98 crore was distributed as arrears to the Khadi workers. The Minister said as part of the action programme for the first year, working capital would be given to 200 primary cooperatives. Rs 2,500 crore will be given as agricultural loan. 25,000 farmers who repay the loan without default will be given subsidy and concession on interest. 30,000 paddy farmers will be given interest-free loans, he said. The Minister said that five new courses would be started in the cooperative education sector. Under the Nanma scheme, for selling 10 essential items, 2,000 retail outlets and 20 consumer units and 5,000 festival fairs will be started in a year, he said. New engineering college at Pathanapuram in will be set up. The department will also consider the prospect of starting a medical college in Palakkad district, the Minister said.
