KOCHI: Kochi city came under police cover on Tuesday in the wake of the all-India strike called by the trade unions. The police had deployed additional staff at every point in the city, including Marine Drive, railway stations and bus stands, to avoid any untoward incidents.“We had personnel monitoring every activity. Though there were possibilities of violence, no such incidents were reported,” a police official said and added that the city generally wore a peaceful look.“All precautionary measures were in place. Special squads and Quick Response Teams were ready to act in case of any violence being reported,” the police official said.The police also lent a helping hand to those stranded in the railway stations.“Police vehicles were allotted to transport people who were stranded in railway stations and bus stands. More than 70 such people were taken to their destinations at various parts of the city. Autorickshaws were also deployed to help transport people,” official said.
