PERINTHALMANNA: There is nothing like football to build camaraderie. Realising this fact, the Janamaithri Police in Malappuram has joined hands with football fans to bridge the police-public divide. Janamaithri football tournaments are being held in Perinthalmanna and Tirur. The tournaments are conducted under the banner of Janamaithri policing to reach out to the people.“The police-people gap is bridged through the football tournaments. It has helped us to reach out to the common people and mediate in their problems,” Perinthalmanna DySP K P Vijayakumaran said.The support from the public is also an encouraging factor for the police. They are taking the opportunity to interact with the police and maintain a rapport.The efforts have also produced good results which is encouraging to the Janamaithri police in the state.The police-public joint patrolling introduced has brought down the number of robbery cases in Perinthalmanna. The cooperation helped to nab around 60 thieves in three months time in Perinthalmanna during the end of 2011.The successful completion of investigation in the Manthoni Yusuf murder case by the Perinthalmanna police is a case in point. The unravelling of the mystery also lifted police image in the public.The police nabbed the culprit, Shameer Babu, within a short span of time though he used ingenious methods to mislead the investigating officials.Circle Inspector Jaleel, Sub-Inspector Manoj Parayatta and ASI Usman need a special mention when talking about the success of Janamaithri policing in Perinthalmanna.The Tirur police are also upbeat about football tournaments by Janamaithri police.
