THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPI state council member N Velappan died and party MLAs from Cherthala and Vaikom, P Thilothaman and K Ajith, suffered injuries when the car in which they were travelling overturned at Edasseri Junction near Kayamkulam on Sunday late night. According to traffic police officials, the car which was heading to Thiruvananthapuram overturned when the driver tried to evade a motorbike which came in the wrong direction. The car which lost control overturned and skidded off the road and fell into a nearby pond. Velappan was found lying in the mud while the MLAs remained trapped inside the vehicle. The local people, who rushed to the spot hearing the huge sound, rescued those who remained trapped inside the car. Thilothaman was rushed to the Vandanam Medical College Hospital in Alappuzha. Meanwhile, Thilothaman’s condition is said to be serious. It is learnt that Ajith had suffered a fracture in his lower limb.
