Cyber Crime Hits SC Judge, User 'Influencing' Netizens Disguised as Madan B Lokur
Delhi Police Special Cell has now launched an investigation to apprehend the person using the email ID, which is identical to that of the apex court judge.

New Delhi: After Chief Justice Rajan Gogoi, another Supreme Court judge has been hit by cyber crime. An unidentified person has been "influencing" people online impersonating Justice Madan Bhim Lokur.

"Some person has been using the email ID [email protected] impersonating the honourable justice of the Supreme Court of India and trying to influence the recipients of the email," Supreme Court's computer cell deputy registrar Avadhesh Kumar said in his complaint to Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik.

Delhi Police Special Cell has now launched an investigation to apprehend the person using the email ID, which is identical to that of the apex court judge. Lokur has presided over some crucial case, including Bihar shelter home rapes.

Kumar also shared emails which some people received from the alleged email ID. Only after learning about these emails did Kumar find out about the crime and subsequently informed the judge about it. Thereafter, an FIR was lodged and the Special Cell has begun probing the case.

The confidential FIR, which was accessed by CNN-News18, was registered under section 66C (identity theft) and 66D (cheating by impersonation using computer source) of the Information Technology Act.

"We have some inputs about the creator of the email but cannot share it due to sensitivity of the case. We will soon arrest the accused," said a senior police officer. A team under inspector Bhanu Pratap of the Cyber Crime Cell of Special Cell is looking after the case.

A month ago, CNN-News18 had reported that an impersonator created a fake Twitter account of Chief Justice of India, Ranjan Gogoi, and posted and shared derogatory material on it. Police has made no headway in the matter yet.

It is pertinent to mention here that both Justice Madan Lokur and Chief Justice Rajan Gogoi (then justice) were among the four judges who held a historic press conference earlier this year against then Chief Justice of India, Dipak Misra.
