Delhi HC rejects plea on second phase of 'odd-even' formula, calls it 'pre-mature'

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Friday rejected a plea that sought exemption for women in the 'Odd-even' car rationing scheme.

The Court has called the plea pre-mature. The plea filed had asked for an exemption for women and two-wheelers in the second phase of the car rationing scheme.

The second phase of the odd-even road rationing scheme will be implemented in Delhi from April 15 to 30.

While announcing the dates for the second phase, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had said that Women drivers will be exempted in the second phase as well.

Based on a recent survey held by the AAP government, Kejriwal claimed that more than 80% of the people of Delhi were in favour of reintroduction of the scheme.

The first phase of the scheme to check pollution -- in which odd and even number vehicles use the roads alternately -- was implemented in the national capital from January 1 to 15.

Single women drivers, VVIP vehicles and the physically challenged were among the 25 categories exempted from the scheme in the first phase.
