New Delhi: Sealing operations in the Capital are likely to resume February 1 for a few days till the notification of the New Delhi Master Plan (MPD) 2020 that allows traders to operate from some residential areas.
The notification is likely to happen before February 7, sources close to Urban Development Minister S Jaipal Reddy said.
The Supreme Court, which had ordered the sealing drive last year, asked the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) to put it on hold temporarily after the government said a new master plan would be in place by January 31.
The plan, which sets out how the city should be managed, was announced last week by Reddy, who gave another fortnight for its notification. The announcement followed traders' protests.
A group of ministers including Home Minister Shivraj Patil, Reddy and Minister of State for Urban Development Ajay Maken as well as Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit decided to amend the master plan to placate the traders.
