New Delhi: India will host the finals of the prestigious Thomas Cup and Uber Cup for the first time from 18th May to 25th May, 2014. The announcement was made after the agreement signing ceremony between Badminton Association of India President Dr Akhilesh Das Gupta and World Federation Deputy President Paisan Rangsikitpoh at the Siri Fort sports complex on Friday.
On this occasion, Dr Akhilesh Das Gupta, said, "We are thankful to BWF for giving us the opportunity to host the prestigious Thomas Cup and Uber Cup Finals in the country for the first time. I'm confident India will organize a world-class tournament."
"India badminton's stature is rising and we are confident that India will host the Thomas Cup and Uber Cup finals very successfully, " added Paisan Rangsikitpoh.
The Thomas Cup (Men`s World Team Championships) and the Uber Cup (Women`s World Team Championships) is regarded as the oldest Badminton tournament. The Thomas Cup was first staged in 1948-49 while the Uber Cup was added in 1956-57.
