A woman police constable allegedly committed suicide at Selaiyur near here on Monday night.
Police said she resorted to the extreme measure as she was depressed over the fact that her husband, also a policeman, often refused to take her out owing to his job.The victim was identified as Dhanalakshmi (22), attached to the Armed Reserve (AR) police.
At 6 pm on Monday evening, when her husband Ganesan (30), a policeman, reached home, Dhanalakshmi picked up an argument with him, complaining that he did not take her out for outings. However, Ganesan maintained that he could not oblige her owing to his job.
To this, Dhanalakshmi retorted that Monday was the only day he could take her out as she did not have work on that day. Dhanalakshmi further complained that she moved to the AR wing six months ago only to spend quality time with him.
The couple had tied the knot six months ago.The argument went on and around 6.30 pm, after which Ganesan walked out of the house.When Ganesan returned around 7 pm, he saw the door closed and tried repeatedly knocking, but to no avail.
He then peeped in through a window from a neighbour’s house, an adjacent building, only to see his wife dangling from the ceiling.
Ganesan immediately forced open the door and found his wife gasping for breath.
He immediately rushed her to a private hospital but the doctors declared that Dhanalakshmi was ‘brought dead’.
A case has been registered by Selaiyur the police and investigations are on.
