Patil ordered an inquiry after constables were seen rushing to greet Dutt.

New Delhi: Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh is apparently unhappy with Deputy Chief Minister R R Patil's order of suspending a police personnel for hugging and shaking hands with actor Sanjay Dutt. Sources have told CNN-IBN that the suspension order has been put on hold.

Patil had ordered an inquiry on the constables after they were seen rushing to greet Dutt when he was released on bail last week.

"I had asked the IG to probe the matter and action has been taken accordingly, although I am yet to receive a report,” said Patil who had asked Inspector General of Prisons Satish Mathur to probe the incident.

Police personnel are forbidden from socialising with convicts according to the police code of conduct.

The incident took a political turn after the Maharashtra unit of BJP asked the state government to take action against state minister Baba Siddiqui.

The BJP says Baba Siddiqui was at Dutt's home to welcome him when the actor was released on bail.

However, Siddiqui told reporters that Dutt was an old friend and there was nothing wrong in hugging a family friend.

What's your reaction?
