Nagpur: Maharashtra Assembly on Thursday witnessed noisy scenes over Union Minister A R Antulay's remarks raising doubts over the killing of ATS chief Hemant Karkare during the November 26 Mumbai terror attacks.
Opposition members, who demanded an apology from Antulay, trooped into the well of the House, forcing three adjournments.
Leader of opposition Ramdas Kadam (Shiv Sena) and Eknath Khadse (BJP) moved an adjournment motion seeking suspension of the Question Hour and discussion on the senior congress leader's remarks in parliament on Wednesday.
Antulay, a former Maharashtra chief minister, had alleged conspiracy behind the killing of Karkare, who was heading the probe into the September 29 Malegaon blast. Speaker Babasaheb Kupuekar rejected the motion but
allowed Kadam and Khadse to air their views.
The Lower House was adjourned three times, first for 20 minutes, followed by 15 minutes and 10 minutes as opposition benches were unrelenting on their demand for Antulay's apology.
They also moved a motion under Rule 23 (1) to condemn Antulay on floor of the House, but the Speaker, citing previous rulings, rejected the motion.
Maintaining that "there is more than what meets the eyes", Antulay had said Karkare was probing some cases in which "there are non-Muslims also", an apparent reference to the Malegaon case in which Sadhvi Pragya Thakur and Lt Col Prasad Purohit are among the 11 persons to be arrested.
