Chennai: After a gap of eight years, DMK Treasurer MK Stalin met MDMK chief Vaiko. The meeting has fueled speculation of a possible electoral alliance to take on the ruling AIADMK ahead of the 2016 Tamil Nadu assembly elections.
The meeting took place at the wedding reception of PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss' daughter. DMK Chief Karunanidhi met Ramadoss at the reception. He also said that Vaiko is his friend and that DMK is open to a new alliance. The DMK PMK, MDMK and the DMDK are presently part of the NDA alliance.
The meeting assumes significance as it comes after Stalin's interview to a local television channel where he hinted at a possible rainbow alliance with the MDMK, PMK and the DMDK.
Vaiko had left the DMK in 1993 following differences with chief Karunanidhi. He went on to start the MDMK in 1994.
Karunanidhi also said that Vaiko is not his enemy but his friend.
The DMK chief also said that in case of a new alliance, he will be happy.
