Mumbai: Don: The Chase Begins, the remake of an Amitabh Bachchan cult classic, with new stars and a contemporised look, is set in Malaysia and Mumbai.
The 1978 Bachchan starrer Don is now Farhan Akhtar's Don where King Khan is portraying the title role.
However, the reinterpretation has evoked a lot of curiosity and the question that everybody is asking is - Will the new Don starring Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Arjun Rampal and Boman Irani match up to the old one?
“There is a huge difference in the screenplay of the film. The story is the same. But the screenplay treatment is very modern. It has a Hollywoodish feel to it,” Shah Rukh says.
The two songs - Khaike Paan Banaraswala and Yeh Mera Dil Pyaar Ka Deewana that are taken from the original film in the remake, have been set into a new avtaar (mould) by music composer trio Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy.
But given the fact that the cast of Farhan Akhtar's Don, love the original, do they fear comparisons?
“It was a cult classic and everybody loved him in the film. It’s too much for me to aim at and I cannot do that. I wanted to play Roma’s character within the parameters of Don,” Priyanka Chopra says.
"Its a tribute to Don,” Arjun Rampal says.
Boman Irani, who plays a cop in the film says, “Bachchan Sahab’s Don is the greatest thing I have ever seen. Shah Rukh’s Don is a tribute. Comparisons will always be there.”
But to find out if the audiences will accept Don in the new avtaar, watch the film as it hits theatres on October 20.
