Authorities of the Dubai Port World (DP World), operators of the International Container Terminal, have said that they would enhance corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities in Kochi.
Kathryn Wightman-Beaven, head of Global Corporate Responsibility, DP World, visited Kochi on Tuesday to review the activities undertaken by the company in Vallarpadam.
“Our approach is focused on the four quadrant model of community - people, environment and marketplace,” Kathryn said.
The projects initiated by the company include organising and supporting medical camps, an environment-friendly kitchen and appliances for the St Mary’s School, supply and planting tree saplings, new fans and chairs to the Ochanturth orphanage, open heart surgery for twenty-one children and eco-friendly toilet facilities for truck cleaners at the terminal.
During recruitment, people from the three panchayats adjacent to the ICTT and in Ernakulam district are given priority,” said senior official of the HR Department of DP World. “DP World developed its association with the Ochanthurth orphanage since the ICTT became operational in February 2011,” said DP World Cochin chief executive K K Krishnadas.
“We have been providing the orphanage with books, clothes and other essential items such as bed sheets for the past two years. Our employees also spend time and share a meal with the children during festivals,” he said.
