New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India is looking at ways to improve its own functioning.

The BCCI held a meeting in New Delhi on Sunday afternoon where Indian skipper Rahul Dravid made a presentation on how to develop the game in the country.

Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly along with Kapil Dev, K Srikkanth, S Venkatraghavan and MAK Pataudi were the other participants.

The main points of discussion were utilisation of BCCI funds, streamlining the selection process and how to improve the cricketing infrastructure.

A special committee of the BCCI also suggested that strict eligibility criteria should be laid down for national and state level selectors.

It also suggested that only professionals, who should be accountable, must be picked for the job.

"Our meeting today was an interaction between players and the board and everyone made tremendous suggestions whether it was Kapil, Sourav, Tiger, Srikkanth or Sheri, each one made extremely valuable suggestions and each suggestion is worth its weight in gold," Chairman of the Special Committee told IS Bindra, said after the meeting.

"It was recommended in the meeting that a selector should have fixed tenure and he should be best qualified to take up the job. For this the Board should lay down the qualification," Bindra added

He said although there were different views on the number of national selectors to be appointed, the members were unanimous that only the best in business should be picked for the job.

"There were two views on the number of national selectors. Some supprted three while others felt a five-man panel should be picked but everyone was of the consensus that he should be best qualified for the job in terms of expertise and experience," Bindra said.

"They also felt that both national and state level selectors should be professionals and paid remuneration for his job."

The meeting, which went on for five hours, also saw the other members present their views on how to improve the overall game in the country.
