BANGALORE: Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda on Monday announced that the state government was mulling to set up Karnataka Sport Academy for Excellence to make available world class training to the sports persons of the state.Speaking after presenting the Ekalavya awards for the year 2010 here at Vidhana Soudha, Gowda said that the proposed Academy would focus on preparing state’s sports persons for the 2016 Olympic Games and other international sports events.Stating that the state government was committed to provide best of training and infrastructure facilities to the sportsmen, Gowda said the state government would soon come out with a new sports policy.“We have already set up an expert committee to formulate the policy and I have asked the committee to give its report as early as possible,” the chief minister suggested.12 sportsmen, including tennis player Pujashree Venkatesh, received the award.The award carries a citation, memento and Rs1 lakh.The Ekalavya AwardeesEkalavya awards have been conferred to the following sportspersons from Karnataka: ■ H M Jyothi (athletics) ■ Viani Antonio D’Cunha (chess) ■ Robin Uthappa (cricket) ■ Amulya Kamal (football) ■ Jeevkumar S (kabaddi) ■ Santosh C R (kho-kho) ■ Poojashree Venkatesh (lawn tennis) ■ Netravathi V (power lifting) ■ Sharanya Mahesh (rollerskating) ■ Shubha Chittaranjan (swimming) ■ T D Ravikumar (volleyball) ■ C P R Sudhirkumar (weightlifting) Lifetime Achievement Award has been conferred to: ■ P S Vishwanath (cricket/ athletics/kabaddi/volleyball) ■ M S Madegowda (volleyball) Cash prize for the award has been increased to Rs 1 lakh from this year
