THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: While the CPM district conferences continue to make ripples in the political circles across the state, away from the din and bustle of the so-called factional feuds, the party leadership in the capital district is working as a well-oiled machinery to make the 20th state conference of the party, being held for the first time in the state capital, a historic event.Organising committee chairman and former minister M Vijayakumar and general convener and district secretary Kadakampally Surendran told reporters here on Thursday that both the towns and villages alike had been awakened to welcome the conference to be held from February 7 to 10. Ahead of the conference, a ‘vilambara ghoshayathra,’ procession to proclaim the conference, will be taken out on January 30 in the length and breadth of the district. Organising committees have been set up in all the 2,040 party branches in the district. The local and area-level organising committee offices have also been opened, they said. The construction of 60 squares being set up in memory of the late communist leaders are getting complete, they said. Around 500 arches will be erected in the city. A ‘flag day’ will be observed on February 1 in the entire state. Flags will be hoisted in three lakh houses in the district on the day, the CPM leaders said. A touring theatre group will start covering the district from January 20. The cultural team also will tour the main centres from January 20. The roadshow of the ‘red volunteers’ will be held on January 22. The march will be taken out from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. An exhibition showcasing the history of the evolution of the ‘progressive, secular Kerala’ will be held at Putharikkandam Maidan here from January 30 to February 10. A massive procession of two lakh party workers and sympathisers, including one lakh women clad in traditional Kerala attire, will be the attraction of the state conference. A mini theatre with a seating capacity of 300 will be set up at the exhibition venue. Screening of film and food festival have been arranged at the venue. Architect G Sankar has designed the gateway of the exhibition venue.
