THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The controversial e-mail ‘hacking’ issue which put the State Government on the defensive for a while has taken a new turn. Sub-Inspector S Biju of the Police Hi-tech Cell was placed under suspension for leaking the list of e-mail IDs which were sent for verification and the directive for the same. The Intelligence wing of the police had handed over a list of e-mail IDs to the Hi-tech Cell to cross check to whom they belong. But ‘Madhyamam’ weekly published a report on this alleging that the state government had directed to hack e-mails of around 250 Muslims. The government, however, denied the report and assured that not even a single e-mail was hacked. “We just issued a directive to verify the e-mail IDs. It is not hacking. Biju has been suspended for leaking the list. An investigation is on to find out to whom he leaked the list as it is not directly to the reporter who wrote the article. Once we find out to whom that was leaked, it will be a bigger news,’’ said a top-ranking police official.
