Emergency exit to be made mandatory

KOCHI: The Motor Vehicle Department is planning to make emergency exit mandatory for school buses. The new plan will be implemented as part of the measures initiated by the Department for the safety of students.The Department has already prepared the draft document in this regard.Specifications for emergency exits has also been suggested.As per the draft document, the exits should have a width of 1.25 metres and a height of 1.25 metres. It should be installed in such a way that it can be opened outward.The windowpane of the exit should be transparent and the door itself must be installed at the rear end of the bus.The department has also suggested that the side windows should have a minimum height of 55 centimetres.
