COIMBATORE: It appears to be a never-ending wait for students who appeared for the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission’s Group-I preliminary examination in June 2011. While the schedule for the final examinations has already been announced, the results of the preliminary examination are yet to be published. The students who had appeared for the preliminary examinations are irked over the delay. “We have lost our faith in the system, especially after the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption raids in the residence of former TNPSC chairman R Sellamuthu in October 2011, when several incriminating documents were found, besides unaccounted cash,” a student said, on the condition of anonymity. Another student who had appeared for the prelims in June 2011, R Shamugasundaram, says, “The results used to be announced three months after the exam. Now it is going to be a year. How do the officials expect us to prepare? The students who are affluent can afford to reside in Chennai and prepare for their examinations. What about those who are not?” Sudaroli, CEO of P L Raj Memorial Study Circle, an institute for TNPSC training agrees. “The students are still uncertain whether to wait for the results or go ahead with other vocations. The exam schedule has been announced and they do not even have a month to prepare for the examinations. Why are the results being delayed?” she asked. Responding to the concerns, TNPSC Chairman R Nataraj told Express, “The delay is being caused due to the former government’s policy of 20 per cent reservation for candidates who have been educated in Tamil-medium. We have to physically verify all the records, which is a tedious procedure. However, we assure that the results will be announced in a week.”
