Engineering course fee to be hiked to Rs40K

BANGALORE: The government has decided to hike the engineering fee to Rs 40,000 from Rs 32,000 last year. This follows the High Court direction to the state government to notify the fee structure based on the Justice Padmaraj Committee report.
The decision to hike the fee was taken at a high-level meeting of Higher Education Department officials on Wednesday, belying Higher Education Minister Dr V S Acharya's stand not to increase the fee beyond Rs 35,000.The state government is expected to hold a meeting with Karnataka Unaided Private Engineering College Association on Thursday to sign a consensual agreement on fee structure. In a related move, the government has also decided to increase the subsidy amount to rural poor and meritorious students.
