New Delhi: The European Union has warned Nepal's Maoists outfits against trying to disrupt next month's constituent assembly elections.
The warning came after the talks failed between the seven-party ruling alliance and the Maoists. The Maoists are demanding that Nepal be declared a republic.
Other parties staged a noisy demonstration in the streets of Kathmandu on Saturday. They demanded that the Maoists return to the political process. There's speculation that the decision by the Maoists was driven by internal divisions and that there could be an imminent split.
The US government has warned the Maoists against trying to "trash" upcoming elections that are crucial to Nepal.
The Maoists on Tuesday pulled out of the government and announced a fresh stir to foil the Constituent Assembly polls slated for November 22.
Beginning from the following day, the Maoists have begun a door-to-door campaign to push for a republican set up prior to the polls.
