THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: According to State Mentor Sam Pitroda, ignorance can be a strength while dealing with new projects and new areas. ‘’It was my asset while coming back to India. If I had a knowledge about the realities of the country I would not have ventured into many things. When I said we can increase the number of telephones from two million to 40 million, it was almost a shock. But now there are 800 million phones in the country,’’ said the man behind the revolution in Indian telecommunication. Pitroda was talking to reporters after the presentation of the projects and a discussion on them here on Monday. He is of the opinion that long-term big projects which would lead the state into development could not be completed using the money from the state exchequer alone. Internationally, there is no dearth of funds, Pitroda said. ‘’If we have well structured projects it would attract investors from around the globe. Recently, I got an inquiry from the head of Russian railways regarding the high-speed rail corridor as they have some information about it,’’ he said. He clarified that using the creative potential of retired work force does not mean giving them re-employment. ‘’It means redefining the abilities of the retired persons. It can be anything which can contribute to the next generation. I am 70 now but I want to be active every moment. This can be made applicable in the case of many who want to be responsible citizens,’’ Pitroda said. ‘’Kerala should prove that it is a reliable partner by completing some big projects,’’ he said. Pitroda, who is also the advisor to the Prime Minister, assured that he would try to get the maximum Central assistance to the state for the developmental projects.
