BHUBANESWAR/KHURDA: Extortionists struck at Jankia where they hurled bombs at a pipe factory on Wednesday. However, no one was injured in the incident which spread panic. Police said four bike-borne miscreants arrived at Richa Pipes and Fitting Co, located near Sunie Rupei Chhak, under Jankia Police limits and hurled five bombs, one of which exploded. The manager of the pipe factory lodged a complaint with the police alleging that one Santosh Mohanty and three others were behind the incident. Police said extortion could be the intention. A few days back, the factory management had received a letter, sent by purported Maoists. The sender had sought ` 10 lakh failing which the plant management was threatened of dire consequences. The matter was intimated to the police but to no avail. In his complaint, plant manager Bibhuti Behura stated that the miscreants barged into the plant, terrorised the staff at gunpoint before hurling the bombs. One bomb which was thrown outside the plant exploded while the rest four did not go off. Police have seized them. On August 4, general manager of the factory Charan Kumar had received the extortion threat. The accused named in the FIR apparently belonged to Champagada. Investigation is on but no one has been arrested yet.
