CHENNAI: A man, who posed as an IAS officer and allegedly swindled several lakhs of rupees from various persons after promising to get them jobs, was arrested by the Central Crime Branch police on Thursday.Acting on a complaint from Muniyandi, a native of Usilamapatti, Madurai district, that he paid L Vijayakumar of Pillayar Koil Street, Thiruvanmiyur, `4 lakh after the latter promised to secure a job for his son, a CCB team conducted an inquiry and arrested him. Muniyandi said that he later discovered that the Vijayakumar had defrauded several others by posing as an IAS officer. The CCB is probing the charges, said a press release.PDS Rice SeizedThe Railway Police seized 30 bags containing about 1,000 kg of PDS rice from the Chennai Central railway station on Wednesday. According to a press release, a special team found 30 bags on platform 8 and on opening them found that it contained PDS rice. On inquiry it was found that the bag were being taken to Andhra Pradesh by train. Ragavalu (60) of Kavali, Nellore, Guna (57) of Vyasarpadi, Chinnapappa of Vepankonda, Parimala (35) of Katpadi and Mangamma (80) of Puthur were arrested and the rice bags seized.Boy’s Body FoundThe body of B Sakthi Aditya (10), a class V student and a resident of Kotturpuram, who slipped and fell into the Adyar River at Kotturpuram on Wednesday evening, was recovered by the fire and rescue services personnel near Boat Club on Thursday morning. The boy lost his balance and fell into the river and drowned.
