New Delhi: Go on, admit that while turning over the pages of author EL James' best selling erotica 'Fifty Shades of Grey', you have mentally auditioned a bunch of actors to play the parts of protagonists Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. I have.
The producers of 'The Social Network' will produce the film adaption of the best-selling erotic trilogy 'Fifty Shades of Grey.' Universal Pictures and Focus Features said in a joint statement that Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti will reteam for the adaptation of the best-selling novels.
The casting has not been completed and a lot of actors would give their right arms to star in what would undoubtedly be another multi-million dollar franchise. Look what the Twilight franchise has done for Kirsten Stweart and Robert Pattinson.
Interestingly, '50 Shades' was initially meant as Twilight fan fiction and the characters bear close resemblance to 18th century vampire Edward Cullen and his love interest Isabella Swan. Much as I suffer from an excess of Twilight and their now rich and famous stars, I cannot envision anyone but the sensitive Kirsten Stewart to play the role of Anastasia. I tried and failed imagining the delectable Mr Michael Fassbender, a fixture in so many films these days, in the role of Grey.
'Fifty Shades of Grey' describes, sometimes in graphic details, the relationship of a submissive and her much older master. It is an old fashioned love story of understanding and acceptance. The story of the depraved relationship between freewheeling business tycoon Grey and student Steele has taken the world by storm, playing on what critics have termed 'mid-life frustration' and outsold the Harry Potter books to become Britain's fastest paperback to reach one million sales.
Grey asks Steele to sign a contract, and she agrees to be his "submissive" and to partake in a range of erotic activities. Here is my dream cast of the film adaptation of '50 Shades of Grey'. Most of the actors have come from television, some in the role of the manager of a call centre while others as the dark, spirit-chasing heroes of supernatural shows.
Role - Christian Grey: Billionaire business tycoon, domineering, a control-freak, basically kind and generous, tempestuous, heavily into sado-masochism.
Cast - Matt Bomer: The oh-so-delectable art thief and heist artist Neal Caffrey of the TV show White Collar combines perfect, suave charm with a dangerous edginess that makes him the top contender for the role of Christian Grey.
Robert Pattinson: An old suspect, the hugely popular Pattinson from the Twilight series has a cult following among fans of vampire fiction. He played the immortal Edward Cullen who falls in love, despite himself, with high school student Isabella Swan.
Jensen Ackles: I am no fan of supernatural freak shows, but even I have to admit that Jensen Ackles has gained a wide following for his ghost-chasing role of Dean Winchester in the TV show 'Supernatural'. His smouldering good looks make him the perfect guy to play Grey.
Ben Rappaport: He played the role of Todd Dempsy in the NBC sitcom Outsourced. 'Mr All Round Nice Guy' Ben may have to work at his attitude to bring in a bit of edginess to the role of Grey, but I see him nicely fitting in the jet-setting role.
Ian Somerhalder What is it with bad-ass vampires and sexiness? Damon Salvatore of the TV drama The Vampire Diaries comes to mind the moment I think of Grey. In fact I am torn between Bomer and Somerhalder for the role of Grey.
Role - Anastasia Steele: Naive, innocent, gullible, has beguiling strength of character, attractive, slim and pale.
Cast - Kirsten Stewart: The goddess of underplayed sexiness, Kirsten has established herself as the love interest of all things unholy. She played Isabella Swan with an amazing vulnerability and I have no doubt she will be equally great as Anastasia Steele, the 'submissive' of Grey in '50 Shades'.
Emma Watson: The Harry Potter actress who played the erudite Hermione has moved on to bigger things after the mega successful franchise. Emma may come across as a much stronger 'Steele' than portrayed in the books, but I would love to see her play Anastasia.
Alexis Bledel: The 'Gilmore Girls' actress oozes sensuality. She has the frail and pale look with just a hint of English rose in her complexion.
Role - Mrs Robinson: Domineering, the one who introduced Grey to a life of BDSM at the age of 15, disapproves of Steele
Sharon Stone: Who else but the 'Basic Instinct' temptress to play the much-older Mrs Robinson who brings Grey out of a self destructive phase and introduces him to hardcore sado-masochism?
