Kolkata: A Film Mart was inaugurated Friday at the 17th Kolkata Film Festival in an endeavour to create a platform for the Bengali film industry to showcase its movies and promote regional cinema in national and international markets.

"Film Mart brings film producer and distributors under one roof. It will help B2B (business to business) interaction and it will in turn promote entertainment business. This will act as a platform which will also help budding filmmakers," said Sanjay Budhia, chairman, national committee on export, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

CII is organising the Film Mart from November 11-17.

It will host various stalls of numerous Bengali film production houses showcasing DVDs and CDs of Bengali movies ranging from classics of Satyajit Ray, Ritwik Ghatak, Mrinal Sen, Tapan Sinha to new generation movies like "Icche" and "Jani Dekha Hobe".

"This time we have kept a section called Bengali Films where we have kept films which will uphold the talent of Bengali cinema. Film Mart will help to fan out our own techniques and style of filmmaking to the global audience. The initiative will play a major role in betterment of the economic aspect of Bengali films," said Ranjit Mullick, chairman of the Kolkata Film Festival.

Actress Rituparna Sengupta said that the Bengali cinema already has a foothold in the global film map due to the works of Ray and Sen and that Film Mart will take it forward.

Around 150 movies, offering a heady mix of socio-communicational themes and popular entertainment from 50 countries, are slated to be screened at the festival spread across 11 venues and having a budget of Rs.2.75 crore.
