BANGALORE: The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) seems to be unrelenting in their efforts to prove that an ounce of action is worth a ton of theory.Joggers can now run with a smile on their faces and a bounce in their step as all inconveniences in the Jaraganahalli park has been straightened out.City Express had published a report, ‘Seatless situation continues in Jaraganahalli’ on August 30, voicing the grievances of the people and criticising the BBMP for not sticking to the vows they make.Residents of the area had been put under severe stress due to the same.They couldn’t use the park as they had no place to sit.Broken benches, weeds running helterskelter and concrete blocks seemed to be the story that the park narrated.Elderly citizens had lodged several complaints.They had said that the deplorable state of the park had prevented them from taking regular walks and exercises as the absence of a place to rest left them in a flurry to get home.Gangamma, a pensioner, said, “It is one of the only parks in and around my house where I could go for a walk to keep myself healthy.With no benches to sit and no idea of what one might find in between the bushes, it was a tribulation.” But came Monday, September 5, which brought with it officials from the Palike, to work on making the city a better place.Now, the weeds in the park have been removed.The broken benches have been repaired and in a few places, new ones have also been installed.The park has been cleaned and has been given a new facade.The same has left residents and visitors delighted as it signifies a return of their routine life.KG Sudheendra, a resident, said, “We are grateful to the BBMP for their delayed yet required action.They have also approached their work very systematically.We can now use the park with out any hassles.” Anita, another visitor, added that it was a positive sign on the part of the authorities concerned to have acted upon the despair of the common man.Sampangi, another visitor, said, “If only the BBMP were to take action like this every time, Bangalore would be devoid of all problems.” The BBMP chief engineer, for the locality, AM Nayak conveyed that action was taken so as to avoid putting residents in further distress.He said, “I have also submitted a proposal to work on the improvement of the park.We might introduce several other facilities in order to make a relaxing place for the residents.”
